Happy MoonCake Festival ya all!!
Every year i would definately look forward to the MoonCake Festival. Why ?
Its not like we have a special party just on that particular day....or we have something extra and etc.
Basically for me it was because of mooncakes!! hahaha i dont really fancy eating mooncakes but rather i enjoy buying mooncakes! just ask anyone at home.
The only mooncake i would eat would be pandan flavour without the egg yolk.
The idea of sweet and salty combined together really isnt my ideal combination.
And since i was young, i was told not to eat sweet and salty stuff together as it would caused one to become deaf.......eh yeah deaf....what you? you cant hear me ? i said DEAF!!!!!
yeah.....an old myth told by our elders.
its a conspiracy to stop us from eating desserts right after dinner when we were kids. sigh and no thanks to them, i grew up with that notion stuck in my head. and i will pass it down to the next generation!!! LOL
Neways, i enjoy the season coz i enjoyed going to bakery and look through their selections. and over the years, people are becoming more and more creative. The variety of flavours are downright outrages these days -
GreenTea Single Yolk Tiramisu Blueberry Cheese White Lotus While Coffee with Butter Skin Snow Skin Peanut Butter with Yam Custard Snow Skin Blueberry with Pineapple Snow Skin Durian Coulis The names themselves is downright WEIRD. And there are LOADS more. Different varieties from different places.
Whatever happen to just plain Lotus Paste with Yolk or Double Yolk or just Red Bean Paste ??
Being someone who enjoys looking thru the latest creation of mooncake every year, im actually very conservative when it comes to purchasing and consuming the mooncakes.
I would only buy the normal traditional mooncakes - basically ;
Lotus Paste w or w/o yolk Red Bean Pandan Flavour Shanghai Mooncake And these days, low sugar or sugar free for my parents. Oh and yeah mixed nuts coz parents love them. Not me ^_^
Last year, i celebrated MoonCake Festival onboard the ship. Requested my parents to buy some mooncakes for me. Shared some with the people onboard. Its was ok
This year, im home!!!
But surprisingly, i wasnt really in much of a mood. I did buy mooncakes but not as many as i would usually purchase. i wonder why.....hmmm
Oh yeah and did i mention, every year the packaging of these mooncakes are vital. the boxes was usually one of the reasons why i would buy mooncakes as well. =P
But i've stopped collecting these boxes! hahaha
As a matter of fact, when i got back last month and did the spring cleaning for my room, i got rid of many of these mooncake boxes. hehehe...weird right...heheh i guess i just decided i've had enough.
Over the weekend, my sis went to her fiance's hometown in Muar. And she brought back some mooncake from the famous local store there. Yong Seng. I requested for a mini tau sar peah like thingy with mushroom called mini mushroom pie but they didnt have so sis bought these lil pigs for me instead.

Don't the pigs look cute!! hehehe Do you remember in the good old days, we had these pigs in baskets. plain or really decorative ones with butterflies! i remember as a child, i would eat these...alot and i would always request for the flowery basket coz its pretty ma...hehehe
aaarh...the good ol' days.
Sure do miss those days.
Neways, sis bought several types of mooncakes. The traditional types and some unusual ones. ^_^
These are the ones that are available all year round. Its nice and i love it. Fresh. With Lotus Paste and yolk. Of coz if there were no yolk it would be super!! hehe
And then there is this huge type. Its a TeoChew MoonCake. mind you, I'm teochew but i cant speak the dialect so dont ask me ok! But i have never seen this before...so im definately looking forward to cutting it up and eat it!!! ^_^
Happy MoonCake Festival !!
Hope you guys all had a great time celebrating the occasion. Eating MoonCakes with fragrant chinese tea under the full moon!! Let's just hope nothing weird happens! *wink* *wink* |
