An old friend's Wedding ^_^ | Sunday, October 12, 2008

Its been awhile since i last attended a wedding.
Well the last wedding i attended was my sister's!! hahaha and that was almost a year ago!! Last December.

Anyways, an old friend of mine,Li Lian recently got hitched and of coz im invited!! haha
The Wedding Day & Dinner is on the 18th Oct 2008 in Kuantan. But unfortunately due to work, i wont be able to make thet trip. However, when another friend of mine, Alice, called me up last month to tell me that there will be another dinner held in Klang. Boy was i happy! hehehe
Since its in Klang, that means i can make it!! hahaha

Kuantan is just way too far for me. sigh.

Well i just got back from the dinner. I must say, this is not your typical Chinese Wedding Dinner. The food was different. The ambience was slightly different. The Bride and Groom however was exceptionally glowing through the night! hahaha
And knowing Li Lian, she is one of the most fuss-free minimalist that I know. Not the type to hoo-haa over stuff. hehe but tonight, she was absolutely gorgeous. Hock Shai is a lucky fellow ^_^. Its uniquely different. Overall. different.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BRIDE & GROOM!!!
First the Bride & Groom werent wearing the typical slightly over the top evening gown and black tie/tux.
Li Lian was wearing a gorgeous off shoulder bodice like top with flower motif paired with a soft black long skirt. And a green pashmina shawl.
Hock Shai was wearing black coat/blazer with matchin pants over a stripy shirt.

There were only Alice and myself and we didnt know the other people at the dinner so we were seated with a bunch of strangers! They consist of Lilian & Hock Shai's friends, colleague & relatives. At first i was worried its gonna be a dull table as i didnt know any of them but am glad that they turn out to be a fun bunch.
So the dinner was held at Loke Fook Moon. Not the old branch in Berkeley, the new one nearby Klang Parade.

A double wedding was going on at the restaurant. And the place didnt have a two floors or separate rooms. The dinners on both side was going on at the same time.
For our side, the people were pretty much well behave! hahaha
As for the other side - well...lets just say we were so called entertained by quite a number of solo performances by some of the guest over there. hahaha

*note to self - should i ever get married....no karaoke facilities at my wedding dinner...EVER!!

Back to the dinner.
Besides the more laid-back and relaxing ambience, the food was anything but the usual.
Not the usual dishes you expect to find in a wedding dinner, this dinner had a rather new twist to it and so far feedback are good! haha

Meanwhile, being me...and with my camera with me - i took pics of the dishes served. At first i was just snapping away quietly but the guys we were seating with was soo nice to actually let me snapped the pics of the dishes first before we dig in!!

* Thanks Guys!! for indulging me!! hahaha

So here are the pics i took. The menu was in chinese and since i cant read chinese, you guys will just have to find a translator for it ok!! haha

Enjoy the pics coz i sure did enjoyed the food!!

The Menu in Chinese

The first Dish - a mixture of sea cucumbers with scallops, dried oysters, fish maw, mushroom & brocolli top with a creamy sauce. very nice.

The second dish. 6 season/stars ?! hehe not your usual yam basket with fish balls and etc. This has stir fried scallops...thai syle kerabu topped over fried slices of fish and jelly fish!! stir fried snow pea with lotus roots. something wrapped with ham/bacon then fried and glazed with some honey sauce. But i like this fried strips of yam wrapping prawns thingys. Its nice!!

The third dish was the Sharkfin Like Soup - i didnt ate any sharkfin but it was made up of loads juicy big chunks of crab meats, prawns and other yummy seafood. eat it with vinegar...its the da bomb!

The fourth dish was fish. But not the whole fish. But slices of fish fillets, steamed with load of black fungus (mok yu), ginger and straw mushroom like mushroom - dunno what its called in english but in hokkien its called 'kim chiam kor' . It has a very clear broth too. The fourth dish is the Salad Prawns!?! De-shelled prawns deep fried and served on top of fruit salad. yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The fifth dish - according to the mother of the bride is the BEST. if we cant finish it, we were suppose to 'ta pau'..hehehe
its pork ribs - something like wu-xi pork ribs. and hainese style like chicken.
The pork ribs was huge, one would imagine it difficult to eat it but the meat was so tender you can just peel it off the bone easily. it was indeed very nice.Followed by the Yam Rice wrapped in lotus leaf. By the time this was served, we were all full to the max but still managed to try alil. it was nice. i would have been just happy having this dish alone. hehehe

Check it out. yummilicous i tell ya...yummilicous!

And of course we ended it with desserts!! it says 'fan shu tung' on the menu but we didnt mind the cold longan ^__^ and 'ang ku' jelly!!!
didnt managed to snapped a nice pic of the ang ku jelly but it was nice!! hahahaha

Overall, it has been a great evening spent with a cool bunch of people in honour of Li Lian and Hock Shai.

CONGRATULATIONS once more to LI LIAN & HOCK SHAI!!
Wishing you guys everlasting happiness and many many wonderful eons together!!!

Thanks for a great dinner!!!
